tips for travelers

Don't be put off by reviews that talk about a bumpy ride.

Long bumpy ride but the large colony of King Penguins + Gentoos + 1 Macaroni hiding in the pool is worth it to see.

Our tour group was promptly met at the pier. Our driver Darren was awesome. He was very knowledgeable about the history of the country and the local flavors. We had a two hour drive to Volunteer Point, which really is the best place to see three different species of penguins. They really were in their natural habitat. They were literally meters away from us. The photos we took were amazing. Even with the two hour drive each way, it was the experience of a lifetime and totally worth it.

The excellence of the Falkland Islands.

Nyree, the Falkland Islands Estancia Travel leader, was excellent. Efficient, safe and information-filled care is Nyree. Just in time, we meet at Stanley Pier and then head to the beautiful and remote country of the Falklands over some very rugged terrain. Volunteer Point is home to 3 varieties of penguins and many other birds. Very different King, Magellanic and Gentoo penguins in abundance and together. This was a special day seeing the real Falkland Islands with a proud 7th generation lady. User.

Five stars are not enough for this spectacular day visiting the penguins at Volunteer Point in the Falkland Islands. For all of us, this day was absolutely great!!! The visit began with us getting into 2 very tall Land Rovers, one driven by the tour provider, Jimmy Curtis; the other by Corey. We would soon know why the vehicles had to be so tall. The terrain we traversed on the way to our destination would have swallowed an average four-wheel drive car. We are also quick to appreciate the skill and knowledge of our drivers in being able to successfully negotiate the vast and rugged landscape. Along the way, Jimmy and Corey answered our questions and filled us in on the history and geology of the land we were traveling through. It was a trip like no other, so much fun, so exciting, the trip alone would have been a worthwhile adventure... But the best is yet to come... penguins!!! Thousands of penguins in their natural habitat! Gentoo, Magellan and an impressive breeding colony of king penguins. And the baby penguins too! We were able to walk among these amazing creatures as long as we didn't get too close, which included staying out of the perimeter around the king's breeding colony or interfering with their passage to or from the beach. Periodically, we would crouch down to take a photo and a penguin (usually a juvenile) would approach us curiously, which was very special. We were also able to walk to the beautiful, pristine beach where the penguins came and went from the water. It was a day like no other in what was already a spectacular vacation, the true highlight of our trip. Jimmy's professionalism and expertise was appreciated by our entire group. The schedule was planned to perfection and there were no issues getting back to our cruise ship on time. Although the multi-course vehicles get stuck from time to time, Jimmy's team traveled by caravan and had no problem getting back and forth. Ultimately, Jimmy accommodated our dietary restrictions with a nice lunch for our return, and the communication leading up to and during our tour was excellent. We wholeheartedly and unequivocally recommend this Viator tour and found Jimmy and his team to be exceptional!

Jimmy and Tonya were professional, knowledgeable about the area and history, and attentive to their guests. The long drive to Volunteer Point is well worth it; An experience for a lifetime!!! Don't be put off by reviews that talk about a bumpy ride. Jimmy and Tonya made sure everyone in our group was safe and comfortable.

Kings, Gentoos and Megallanics were amazing!

I was quite upset because the travel information promises 4 people for a 4X4 and there were 5 of us crammed into the 4X4. The guide said he could cancel if he wanted, I said no as long as I sat in the front. He Allowed someone else to sit in the front! They talked the whole way, the people in the background didn't hear anything unless we asked them to repeat it. When we got there, some drivers took the 4X4. Someone else's driver from the same company was available for people to ask questions. Snack time arrived, my keto lunch was nowhere in sight. I ate 2 apples which were good. Luckily we stopped at Boot Hill, which for me more than made up for the bad mood I was in. Overall it was a great day. The king penguins behaved and posed for many photo opportunities. The Gentoos were a bit grumpy and the Megalanians were in short supply.

Of all the possible penguin tours in South America, this is by far the best! If you're heading south, book months in advance and enjoy!

I watched gentoos, kings and magellanics interact with their chicks. I have also seen them jump into the waves and swim, as well as return to shore. Exciting, but the journey is hard.

Thanks to Canadian/UK colleague Jimmy Curtis and co. this was the highlight of a great trip to Antarctica. Long bumpy ride, but the large colony of King Penguins + Gentoos + 1 hidden noodle in the pool is worth it to see. Competent company. Thank you. JUST DO IT!!!!

The worst excursion of my life! With Indoor America and Jimmy Curtis. Very rude and uneducated. Call me by first and last name. Choose 4 little Asians to sit in the truck. One in the front seats and 3 in the back, like sardines in a can. He puts us in a compact van and insists that it is a Jeep 4x4. Because I complained that Viator is misleading in the advertisement. Now Viator changes the description to 4x4, he doesn't mention the word JEEP. Jimmy never apologizes for any inconvenience, totally unprofessional. I have never chosen this provider, Inland America and I do not recommend anyone else to book with Viator. Both companies are not trustworthy and are not responsible. My grade is zero points or less

4 of us traveled in a comfortable 4x4 for 2 hours of inflatables. drive with 6 other 4x4's with Jimmy's Tours before arriving at the King Penguins nesting site which you can get up close to from about 10 feet - fantastic photos and unforgettable memories - the best tour on our cruise. Our driver, Stacey, was friendly, capable, and on time for our departure. She would suggest that she improve some general Malvinas issues.

This is a magnificent tour. Go to the Volunteer Point if you have the opportunity to visit the Malvinas Islands. Our only downside on this tour was the misleading information provided by Viator on your travel voucher. The voucher said that the tour provider would be Indoor America - Top Private Tours. Actually, the tour provider was Jimmy Curtis Touring. Also, the coupon specifically said... Disembark promptly after the ship docks. We will be waiting for you when you go through the security gate with a big blue flag that says 'EXCURSIONS'. That was not correct either, since the only tour company with a big blue flag was not Jimmy Curtis Touring. Since each boat that entered the pier contained 100 people, there was complete confusion when it reached the shore. Finally, we got everything settled and off to a memorable day with the Jimmy Curtis Tour Company. I highly recommend this group as they are very professional, provide a very good lunch, and most importantly cost much less than the same tour offered by the cruise line. In our case, we paid $130 less per person than we would have paid on the boat. Although most of the 2 hour 4x4 drive to Volunteer Point is over very rough terrain, mud, hills, tall grass, streams, through metal planks laid over ditches, etc., it is something you will never forget. On our trip, two of the seven 4x4s in our trailer got stuck in mud or a ditch and had to be towed away, a typical day at the office in the Falkland Islands. Once we got to Volunteer Point we were certainly not disappointed as we literally saw 1000 penguins between 3 different species King, Gentoo and Magellanic. Both Rei and Gentoo live in colonies, but Magellan lives in burrows buried in the ground. In addition to the inland breeding colonies, he can also walk out to the Atlantic Ocean to see penguins wading in and out of the sea. We were very lucky the day we were there, January 9, 2018, as there was a lot of activity on the beach. At the same time, I recorded about 50 Gentoo penguins coming out of the sea at the same time, the most amazing thing. If you take this tour, be sure to wear plenty of layers of clothing as the Point can be cold and windy. Although the temperature was in the high 50s when we were there, 10 degrees Celsius, the very windy conditions will wear you down during the 2 hours you will be on land. I have attached some photos of the tour. Note the only photo I took from our 4WD of the left hand side of the top of the extremely steep photo hill we had to climb on our way back to Stanley. This hill, in my opinion, can have an inclination of 40 degrees.

The tour was wonderful from the 4x4 ride to the penguins we saw. We had a problem locating our tour. The instructions were to look for someone in yellow holding a yellow sign with my name on it. This was not the case. After waiting 15 minutes for someone with a yellow sign, we started asking the other tour operators if they had my name. Jimmy had my name on his list. This should not have happened and was very disconcerting.

WERNER R,

If you want adventure, here it is. The 4x4 was truly off-road. There are no roads there, the driving was cross country for very long stretches. I've driven a jeep my whole life and didn't know what these vehicles can do and the punishment they can take. People with back or neck problems should definitely avoid this difficult journey. But it was gratifying, the landscapes, the animals, the countryside. The guide was excellent and a good driver. They go in groups, which is good, so they can help each other when one gets stuck. A fantastic trip, the only downside was the lunch they provided. Horrible.

We saw many, many penguins, and that's what the tour is all about. Our driver was very knowledgeable and funny which made the incredibly long round trip easier to bear. Note there is a 2 hour drive each way on VERY PROUD paths for an hour or so to spot penguins. So 4 hours driving - 1 hour penguins. The 3 types of penguins, as well as the sheep and birds, make the trip worthwhile. I recommend this tour.

Brilliant trip, really enjoyed a great tour, definitely recommend. Malvinas was very interesting, and talking and meeting the people who live in Stanley was fascinating. This is an unmissable tour if you plan to visit the Falklands, of course the penguins also help.
